Is this going to be a recurring thing? I'm over an hour away, not sure how often I would be able to make the trip.

I'll stay tuned for more info.
Yes, I would hope it would be recurring, every month or couple months. I know you are further out, but we couldn't get a shop out there, and Will offered.

Hello I'm a new guy from montgomery orange county area.. I have bought two set of plans and looking for some advice. I was wondering if you guys did start up a club or group

We haven't had a lot of interest yet. I'm still open to it if we can get some people together. What kind of plans did you buy?

I bought a set of plans from PDJ. I also have the metal mech ones as well. still trying to figure out what size that i should build. cnc noob to the core. i wanted to so a 4'x8' but i thinking that might be a little overkill since I'm using this for mold making and such.. have you seen or know of the pilot pro plans?

mold making in what material? its all about what you want to do.

I mainly use stuff from Smooth on . but I either make my molds from fiberglass and gelcoat, or out of a pink foam from home depot i just stack it up and shape it seal it and then make a rubber mold from it..

I guess I should have asked what material goes into the mold. I assumed you weren't machining 4x8 tool steel molds. For machining foam you don't need a ton of rigidity but you may want more Z travel than a router might have.

I guess I'll lay out some thoughts to try to drum up some more interest.

Here are my two CNC builds:

Tree vertical mill retrofit : http://www.cnczone.com/forums/vertic..._retrofit.html

    Scratch lathe build: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/vertic...ate_lathe.html

I'm interested in all aspects of making things.

    Some potential group activities:
    1. Help on cnc projects. I'm not an expert but between the two builds I've picked up quite a bit. Mach3, LINUXCNC, gecko drives, Mesa I/O, AMC drives, VFDs etc. I also want to set up a MPG pendant for the mill so if people are interested in working on that I'd be happy.
    2. Show and tell. People bring in what they are working on.
    3. Group builds. Model engines or whatever.
    4. Discussion. Whatever topics we can come up with. If we have experts we could do a lecture type event.

    Let me know your thoughts.
Do you have any meetings planned for September???

I'm up for a Sept meeting. Lets see if we can get some interest. I could do a weekday after work or possibly a weekend day. What works for people?

I would come down if it's on a weekend. Since I'm new to all this being able to ask questions with a machine in front of you helps.

So far you are the only person who has expressed interest. I think I'll wait for more people.
