Question handy mach3 wizard/addons for luthiers

Would anyone be interested in mach3 wizards/addons that are made specially for guitar and bass luthiers ? (like the "standard shapes" wizard from newfangledsolutions)

for some basic tasks this could save some valuable time instead of first drawing in CADsoftware and converting in CAM software, you get direct G-code generation in mach3 by inputting some parameters on a fancy screen...

examples I have made for myself:
    -radiusing fingerboards (normal and compound)
    -fingerboard outline
-routing fret slots (following fingerboard radius)
-equal spacing string slots in nut
-buzzfeiten shelfnuts (user must also need buzzfeiten software and be authorized to use it)
    -radiussing bottom of nut
    -neck profile probing
    -measuring fingerboard radius with probe
    -pickguard tracing with probe
    -drill position dots
-scaling inlays (from example G-code) and routing them in the correct position/size
-pickup routing (humbuckers, single coils, etc)
-neck pocket routing (f.nd.r/w.rm.th style guitar and bass)
    -drill tuner holes in line
    -etc...

Would you also be willing to pay a small fee for something like this ?
    I'm thinking something like $10-$50...

Yes.... Count me in as a customer

I just bought the plans to build a Joe's 4X4 CNC and hope to start building it soon.

Please join this forum "Official Luthiers Forum" which I belong too.
    http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/

They have a CNC section in the forum with a dozen or so active posters who would all be very interested in this offer.

Yes, I'm interested. I had written some of those things as VB in BobCAD V20, but then they tossed their scripting support. At this point, I'd rather go right to GCode if possible.

    Thanks,

Count me in , one question. Why would you need to radius the back of the nut?

I too would like to exchange money for these as yet mythical Mach plugins!

(seriously, though, let us know when they're ready)

I do the support for the Newfangled Wizards. I could add something like this but I need to understand the requirements.

Are these shapes standard and accepted- the current electrical shapes wizard uses things like a DB25 plug that are well known and agreed to. Are there similar shapes for instruments? Are these shapes public or does someone have copyright?

What is needed beyond the standard shape? Does it need to be scaled? rotated? offset to a specific position?

Give me some detail, Ill see what can be done.

    hi guys

sorry for the very late reply.
I haven't got any time yet to finish the wizards

the basic code is there and the wizards are all running on my machine, but they need some fancy screens + the input data needs some error checking to make them more foolproof against wrong input data, etc

Not all that hard to do, but I didn't have enough time to finish this all.

Last year I got a really nice job offer that I just couldn't refuse, so I decided to quit my fulltime guitar repair business.

But I didn't want to turn down all the customers who still had a guitar in my workshop or who where on my huge waiting list...

So since then I spent ALL my available free time on helping these people first before I can do some other fun stuff.

I still have a few guitars left to do, but this wizard project is still on my todo list for the future.

Maybe if Ron would be interested in working together for making nice screens (he knows a lot more about programming than I do), maybe we could get them available in a shorter period of time ?

answer to the question about the radiussed nut bottom wizard:

some strats for example have a radiused nut slot instead of a straight bottomed slot, so the bottom of a new bone nut must also follow this radius to have a perfect fit.

a CNC router is actually a little bit overkill for this kind of job, but I made a wizard for it anyway :-)

if you like to sniff bone dust you could also file/sand this radius by hand
draw a line with a fingerboard radius gauge and use this as a guide

or put some 80-grit self-stick sanding paper on the fingerboard (it usually is the same radius as the nut slot bottom) and use that as a sanding form

--> for both "manual" methods, trying to keep the bottom surface at a 90° angle while making the radius is a little bit tricky

but you could also make a radius jig for a belt sander, spindle sander or router table

or you can also buy pre-radiused nuts

or just file/route the slot straight and use a normal straight bottomed nut (but I don't like to do this on a vintage guitar)
