Hello everyone,

since I've finally got my electronics in working order and neatly (sort of) arranged them in a rackmount box I now need to pair them with a machine.

My main interest is building guitars and r/c models, so the ideal size of the machine is 1000mm x 550mm x 450 mm (above that I simply have no room where I can put it).

Materials which I intend to work regularly are hard woods and miscellaneous plastics.

I also would require to periodically work on small detail parts in aluminium up to 1cm (13/32" circa) thick.

My preliminary design is the following:

[all structural parts are 20mm thick, screws are 12x3 TPN with nylatron nuts, kress 1050 motor]

I've done a few calculations but, since I lack experience with automated machinery, which material you would advise me to use for the structure considering I require at least 1/10th of a mm precision and similar magnitude accuracy?

Since It would be primarily used for hobby purposes speed (or lack thereof) is not an issue.

Thanks in advance for your insight!

Tim
