If so, what kind of rpm should I expect to spin at? Will be starting with ~5/8" round stock to make a mandrel.

I made my wedding band out of a 1.125" rod of 64l-4V ELI on my HF 8x14 lathe with HSS steel bits.
It was actually the first thing I made on my lathe, and it really wasn't all that hard. I just used the slowest speed, and I didn't have any cutting oil so I just dripped motor oil as I cut if it started to smoke.
The very limited experience I've had with Titanium was actually making a small yo-yo. Man, it that thing sweet! Anyway, I ran it very slow. Materials like this can be so tricky to machine. You really have to be careful how & when you use oil though, as it can actually have an opposite effect and keep the tool from cutting. I used water based coolant when I cut it. Dyne, I'm really surprised the motor oil worked for you.... I've seen very bad results when trying to use lubricating oil rather than cutting oil on certain materials.
