Check MSC catalog, normally Electric edgefinder work with metal ...... 'cause it need ground to trip the light. But I think they also have electric edgefinder with a spring load and claim work with any material but it's expensive you are talking $200 plus.
The best way to learn is trial error.
i checked they said they didn't have one
any more ideas?
thx

Hi basswakr
There is a laser that you can use I don't have the spec but they are in the home machinist magazine
Found it http://www.lasercenteredgefinder.com/
Mactec54
Those kind of lasers are just visual, and not so accurate as a regular edgefinder.
I'd go with a 3D probe. The actually require the motion to move the tip to register the edge, so will work with materials that don't conduct electricity.
I got one like the one in this thread:

Haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but it was very well made for the price.

What's the issue with a standard edge finder ? If used correctly it will get you real close. If you need it closer you can always sweep edge with an indicator. Takes more time but very accurate.
there is no issue with reg. edgefinder
the electronic will be much faster & easier.
i ordered the probe that bob suggested &
will let u know how it works .
thx for all your help guys
