i could get a mold quoted for you and it would be done in the usa penna.
probably would be more cost effective.
    just let me know.

What is your finish and flatness call out? If done the cheapest way in one op the face will have feed lines and probably be concave.

Anyone mind sharing the tooling cost for a mold? It of course will need to be multiple cavity. Molding will look better than machining but at these quantities I would think it would make the per piece price too expensive, unless it went to China. Even if the mold cost $500 machining will beat the price on 1,000 pieces. You also have +\- .0005 on a diameter, I would think the mold would have to be dead on to hold that.

    I see +/- .005...not tenths.

to build the tool and mold 2000 pcs the piece price would work out to 1.28 a piece all said and done.

Once he announced the state (PA), it probably would not be cool to list the price as everybody jumps on the low bidder lately. Polypropylene is too hard to turn burr free in that sized part. I gave him a bar fed price on Delrin at 90 cents, I am assuming the final price was less than that.

Thanks for the info, how long is a mold cycle time? Turning time would have been a minute. Next time I need to recognize jobs like this can be molded cheaply and not bother bidding.
