preventing rust on water table slats?

Thanks for your help in advance. This is my first post.
Wondering if an application of ospho on the slats periodically might help prevent rust. It has worked very well to prevent rust on unfinished steel sculptures that have been outside in the weather for many years. I have heard good and bad things about the additives that are available for the water. Thanks for your help.

Slats are consumables that will need to be replaced eventually. You'll need to replace them due to cutting use way before they rust through. Don't worry about it... There's also a anti-rust additive recipe on this forum you can search for.

If that coating is water proof you'd be better off putting on your water tray.
