    Re: Hoss's G0704

Hey Dutch. Well it showed 3000 RPM on the mill tach so unless it was way off then I would assume it at least gets within spitting distance of that speed.

I do kinda wish I had waited on the grizz, but that is mainly because I paid a premium to have something now but as is always my luck it got me nowhere. In reality though I didn't pay a ton extra. Since I live in Missouri I was paying sales tax too and that jacked up the price quite a bit for the grizzly machine.

I'm not happy that the controller on it bit the dust but I am happy with how QMT handled it. It's out for delivery this morning so I should have it back up and running today. We shall see.

    Money is a funny thing
Everytime I try to save money when it comes to machines I usually wind up spending alot more in the end of ends, esp. if I "charge" for my time spent 'fixing' or 'modding' stuff I could have avoided by spending more up front in the first place.

It still shows on their site as 2500rpm, That would be a nice improvement. over the pm20..

By the time I get mine home I'll have all the specs in one place at least. then you just make a list

    Regards, Ed
I can concur that 3000RPM is the max. I checked mine with a hand held digital tach too. They were within 10 RPM of each other.

Hoss, I'll see if I can run a test on my mill to see if she can do it. I don't doubt it.

Alright folks, I think Precision Mathews has received enough publicity here, start a new thread,
    this is for the G0704.
    Thanks, Hoss

Sorry hoss. Your right, were hijacking here.

On topic... Do you think you will be making those videos? I for one think that would be awesome. I have a few Putnum cobalt roughers now but not any inkling as to what i can really expect of them in steel.

You are right Hoss. That's what you started this thread for.
I apologize. I should have just PMed you for your opinion on the PM machine since that is what I wanted to start with.
    Thanks for your indulgence.
I look forward to a G0704 CNC kit or instructions if you care to share that.

Hey all, new poster (and machinist) but I've been following the g0704 threads for a while now.

First off, thanks to Hoss and the others for posting all this great info about this mill and its capabilities, I've really learned a lot!
Originally I was hooked on getting the X3, but after reading into this machine more, I've since changed my mind.
Only things that suck are the long wait, and the crazy shipping charges to Alberta, Canada. I figure a grand for each machine after all is said and done!!

I want to stick with grizzly regardless, because I too am ordering the g0602 lathe, and wanna stick with the same company.
I ordered my g0704 bout a week ago (22nd) and they said stock will be arriving June 18. I noticed people ordering these machines earlier in the moth and even march, and were getting the same stock date. Anyone figure it's an innacurate date and will be an even longer wait due to the number of people ordering this machines???

Thanks, and I look forward to posting more!

    g0704 shipping

Riz, I dont want to falsely raise your hopes but ... seems there is one of two issues with Grizzly. Either they under promise and over deliver on purpose or they really have no idea on have to do inventory management.

i say this becuase i know three people here locally including myself that after ordering got a delivery date 3-4 months out. Actual delivery was more like 6-8 weeks I ordered mine in Jan - was promised by Apr - get it end of Feb. Another person i know here in the office ordered a couple weeks ago - was told end of July - just got a notice to expect it within 30 days.

Hopefully you will get such a notice soon as well. Dont forget to update your order for lift gate service if you need it !!!

Fingers crossed they pull through early! However, I've been planning my mill/lathe order since last year so I'm not tooo concerned bout another month or two..
And I checked the box to be contacted about the liftgate service on my order, so just waiting on the call.

Sorry about the hijack Hoss I did not even realize that, thanks for the help here though,
For those stuck with blue machines, I just set up a group on yahoo for those folks called bluemachining. PM/ Weiss group. (group)
It is for both hobby size lathes as well as milling machines.

hope that gets them of your back Hoss;-)

    Hoss,

    Nice demo!

How far along is the CNC conversion of this mill?

    Thanks for no extra music

Hoss thanks for making the video so you could actually hear how the motor was handling the cut.

  16. #336
Youtube axed the cool music I had on the original. Oh well.
The mill and motor can handle pushing harder than I was but I won't without flood.
No worries what so ever about what the 600 Watt motor can do.
What the tooling itself can handle will be the limiting factor.
Found some info in a manual on adjusting the controller board pots to increase rpm and torque to try.
    Specs in the video

    Grizzly G0704
    600 Watt Motor
    .375 4FL HSS Rougher
    .375 WOC
    .750 DOC
    700 RPM @ 1-2 IPM
    1018 Mild Steel

    Grizzly G0704
    600 Watt Motor
    .750 4FL HSS Rougher
    .750 WOC
    .500 DOC
    600 RPM @ 1-2 IPM
    1018 Mild Steel

Cnc and flood down the road will require new tests with the belt drive.
I can find a better use for the 3 HP VFD money now.

[QUOTE=angelballer;753714]Glacern doesn't deny that they have manufacturing partners around the world including Taiwan. Shars isn't selling them for their typical "Chinese" prices so I would assume these are manufactured in Taiwan as well and it could even be that they are rebadging them from Glacern themselves. It is impossible to say unless Sol or a Shars rep comes on here and clarifies but personally I don't care.[QUOTE]

Shars has a bunch of closeup photos of their SV440 on their website.($195)
If they chose the best example for the photo shoot, I'd rather pay the $30 extra and get a GlacernGSV-440. (On sale for $224.95)
It looks like the same casting, but the milling and finish is lacking.
