The belt drive is back on and the controller board tuned.
I have the max rpm pot fully clockwise, the min rpm pot fully counter-clockwise
and the torque pot 1/4 turn short of max clockwise.
I get 78 rpm Min on LOW
    2500 rpm Max on LOW
    6800 rpm Max on HIGH
Still has lots of torque even at 78 rpm so it should be good for tapping under CNC later on.

The tach pickup mount wasn't mounted yet.
I want to modify my main pulley to allow use of a new drawbar wrench.

    Thank you sir.
Didn't get a chance to use it yet, the mill is now in several pieces again for
    the next project.

Looking good Hoss. I just ordered a G0704, and Grizzly's 5" milling vise. I have not read much about their vises, but the shipping was basically free on the vise which made it fairly attractive. If it's crap, I'll make them send a call tag to take it back. I contacted Grizzly a couple of days ago and they said if I ordered my machine it should ship in the second week of June, but I told them to hold everything and ship only when the mill does, allowing me to cancel my complete order and go with the Lathemaster which is due in soon as well. Price wise I was having a hard time justifying the extra cash for a little more HP. I only have a Taig at the moment, but I did buy an IH RF45 back in 2006. When I sold that mill I kept most all of my tooling, so I wanted something with an R8 spindle, but smaller to fit in my smaller shop. I think the G0704 will fit my needs, and once I get it converted to CNC, I'll sell the Taig which is servo based for a decent amount. I'd love to upgrade the spindle bearings and add a belt drive like you did, but I'm afraid that's out of my league since I don't have a lathe or rotary for my mill. I cut aluminum so having ~6000 rpm for 1/8" end mills would be nice. It's the reason I bought the Taig in the first place.

The vise should be fairly decent, looks like the typical .002 tolerance version
    everyone and their brother sell.
There will be a G0704 store eventually with lots of goodies for it.
Probably offer the pulleys first as the rest can be DIY on the mill.
Need time for product testing and QA first.

LMS has a new 4 inch CNC Mill Vise that looks just like the 6 incher I got for the ZX45.

I like it because it can be mounted on either side as well for big pieces.

It’s good to see the shipping date has been moved up. I’ve had mine on order since April, they told me June 18, back then.

Hey Hoss, this reminded me. I bought the same 6 inch vise you did a couple months back, and the jaws do not line up which makes me wonder about its concentricity. Any tips on tuning up these vises?

    concentric? vise?

Square and rectanglular objects may be "square" and "parallel". The term concentric refers to shapes such as circles, cylinders, globes, etc. (round stuff). When these objects are concentric they share the same center point.
The fact your jaws don't line up probably has more to do with how the individual jaws are attached to the vise, and/or how much play is being allowed by the set screw (located centrally on movable jaw, visible from operator side) that places compressive force on the "angle lock" mechanism.

I haven't had any trouble with mine.
I'll go down tomorrow and have a look at it to see if it has some wiggle room
    or anything can be modded.

IMO the one thing you don't want is a cheap vise. The first vise I bought was a 3" from LMS, and let me tell you, what a POS. It claimed to have the anti-lift half sphere in it which it does, but it was so poorly done that the jaw would still lift .020" when tightening down on the work. Also repeatability is horrible as well.

Don't worry about spending the money, just make sure you spend it in the right place.

Stick with Glacern, Kurt, Parlec, or even the higher end Shars vises.

I know the Chinese vise pricing is tempting, but you will get what you pay for.

This is the type of vise I wanted but I'm not going to spend $400-1000 on a vise, period.
I've used plenty of POS's over the years and none of them kept me from making good parts.
Glacern makes the best cheap vises but it's still more than I could justify spending on a stock gripper.

If your trying to be really accurate you will have to dial in your part with almost any vise. If you have to do that then how flat the vise is becomes a lot less important. I was talking to a tool maker about my vise not being so flat and lifting some and he said all vise have some lift so it makes little difference. Grab the indicator and tap.

If you just want to slap some stock on and don't need to be within .004" or so then most of the better low cost vises will do. Most parts we do don't need to tighter than .004" anyhow.

So we are talking about parts that need to held to less than .004" and over .001" or so.

Here a nice flat non lifting truly flat vise would save some time.

I keep my vise on a jig plate that mounts perfectly every time. Then I install and mill jaws and they become accurate for me. I never use the bottom throat part on my vise, but milling that part flat would certainly allow me to use parallels etc. if needed.
Like pretty much anything you buy at a cheap cost, some are golden, some are scrap. I have been pretty lucky with most of the inexpensive stuff, but have had some duds too. Both of my vises though are great. 5" and a 2.5". One from Enco and the other from LMS.

I don't make engine parts though, so my tolerances need not be that good. Everything does mill perfectly square and true and level by making sacrificial jaws.

Well some people have higher standards then others. I've worked with plenty of guys that just "OK" work is good enough for them. I don't do things that way but everyone has their preferences.

I'm not trying to start a war here, I was just giving my opinion on cheap vises.

    What an egotist.
Oh I see, you need a top of the line vise to make good parts.
I don't have that problem, I can make good parts with a drill press vise.
It's not the equipment you see, it's how you use it.
Trust me, the "standards" that I machine parts to, meets or exceeds anything you've ever done.
I just don't act like a diva about it all the time.

Sorry for the rant but self-righteous people get under my skin.

    Must be french.

Here's a better drawbar wrench print. Made it to fit inside the pulley for the belt drive.
Should work with the cover on if anyone actually leaves that thing on there.

Hoss, (or anyone else for that matter) What size are the t nut slots on the G0704, I think Im getting ready to order one, and was going to grab some accesories too. I think I recall seeing something about it, but I cant find it again.

    Thanks
    Brian

This clamping kit from LMS will fit.
    http://www.littlemachineshop.com/pro...68&category=11
the G0704 slots have about .010 -.025 clearance above What Chris specs for the #1268 or 2021 under Chris's tips.

Cool, then g1075 kit from grizzly should work. I'm gonna get a handful of stuff from them when I order the mill. Other stuff like Collets, vise, boring head, face mill, maybe a rotary table of some kind, etc. I already have a bunch of end mills, just need accessories for this machine.
