along with a stock and hardware kit.
Probably be a couple weeks for the Phase 2 ballscrew version,
basically the same thing but a couple extra parts to make and new bearings.

after seeing your videos Hoss I decided I need one of these, pulled the trigger and ordered one last night, got the out of stock notice today with a delivery date of 17 sept.(nuts)

Can't wait to see your CNC setup as I will be doing that pretty much as soon as I get the mill.

Just debating with myself whether or not I should go straight to ball screws.

should make a nice companion for the CNC'd X2 I have, might have to started looking at high speed spindles for the X2 and maker it a dedicated engraver

I got the same sort of notice...on back order till sept.

Nonetheless i got it about 2 weeks ago

That being said Im a bit fed up with Grizzly being out of stock on half of their inventory...dont think its a good idea to order tooling from them, i just had to cancel half my order or else Id have to wait till the middle of september to get a set of endmills and 1/2" holddown kit...hmm sounds like time to call MSC...

    Good to hear :-)

I've never ordered tooling from Grizzly, usually wait for a sale from Enco or msc (if I can wait LOL)

although this time I did order the clamping kit with the mill - back ordered as well :-(

Sounds like their trying to keep inventory levels as low as possible - can't blame them in these times, but yeah it sucks :-)

    Welcome to the club!
Think a bunch of us might be finding a specialized use for our old X2's now.

The Quill belt drive is complete, the tach is working along with the DRO.
Getting about 5375 rpm on the mills tach, only a hundred or so off the digital.
The DRO shows me getting 2.4 inches of travel.
Getting the same rpm in reverse too, used to be half in reverse.

What are you getting in low gear? I would be limited in the high range till bearings are replaced but if low is about half then really a LOT of what I have been doing manually would work just fine in low till I feel the urge to make life interesting and pull the spindle. Also, how doable is making the pullys fit the splines for us of limited automated tooling?

I'm getting 3300 max in Low, that should be safely in the limit of the stock bearings.
The spindles splines? The pulleys don't come anywhere near the splines,
the V-belt drive only requires some basic turning capabilities on a manual lathe.
Close tolerance on a few dimensions sure, but the stock is cheap if you bugger one.
The Timing pulley version can be made from stock ones from SDP/SI if someone doesn't have a 4th axis to make their own.
SDP/SI part #'s are on the prints.

Well sweet! Guess I'll have to order the plans then and figure out how the drive works

Just wanted to make sure I didn't need anything exotic to get going on it.

    Ready to go.
Now I can spend some time adding a bunch of accessory links to the main page.
    Some top fives.

    pretty pricey

Not to be super critical of someone who is so prolific in documenting mods, but that $30+ for a download seems kinda steep. Guess if the market bears it, it makes sense.

Well, think of it as $.62 cents per file or about $.35 cents/hour for my time
researching, designing, machining, building, testing and documenting the conversion.
The price includes free updates for the Phase 2 ballscrew conversion.

Once you have built a machine or upgraded parts on a machine, then you may develop an understanding behind the cost. Hoss has given away plenty of freebies.

I agree with LeeWay...Hoss has done alot of research and contributed alot to this forum...for free! I dont think his Print Price is out of line...a good machinist could import his drawings into a Cam Pgm and write Programs from the drawings...

    Thanks fellas,
Just a note though, the download includes DXF's of the prints that can be loaded into just about any other CAD/CAM program out there.
I use them with Alibre for making 3D models and DeskCNC for making the programs for the X2 CNC.
