im tryin to get info on this machine.

it says bridgeport on the head with the number m14331 (i think its a serial number)

on the base it says Brown and Sharpe, Providence RI Number 2a

and thats all i have to go on..

im trying to find a parts source (if any) and a value...i know its hard to tell from the pic but its in pretty damn good shape. its probably several years old... (beyond 15 at a minimum)

It's a Brown and Sharpe 2A Universal mill with a Bridgeport M head adapted. I have seen the mill advertised for around $1800. There is a factory vertical head option. I don't think the M head would add much to the value. It looks like it might be handy though.

well theres no DRO so i was thinking i can get it cheap and it will be the perfect candiate for a CNC upgrade...but i dont know anything about it, i dont think its variable speed, id give 1800 for it if its worth it....(id haggle at 15 though)

Anything can be converted to CNC with enough effort. I would look for a Boss Bridgeport before converting something this unusual. It would be much easier, cheaper, and more usable. The M head uses an odd, small collet size. The ball screws and nuts would be more difficult to fit. It would make a nice conventional machine though.

yes i read about the collet. its a #2 morse taper. maybe i can haggle him down real real cheap and find a j head for it! lol

man i rally dont know if i should buy it now. i read that B&S made some pretty good stuff, but im scared of the M head....

what was the purpose of putting the m head on it to begin with? anyone know?

The J head is much larger than the M head. It would need to be mounted differently to allow the same space below the spindle. I have heard the stock vertical head accessary sometimes show up on Ebay. There is also a shaper head accessary.
