hi, I measured 0.017mm backlash on the X axis. Is this normal or I need to adjust something to make it less. thanks

David...
That is less than 1 Thou"......0.0006 inch. I would say that is pretty good. How much accuracy do you need....
cheers

thanks for your reply. Since this is my first machine, I just don't know how much I shall expect. Is there something called "zero backlash ball screw"?
Yes, there are - they are usually ground as you need to have a "gothic arch" raceway" and hand selected ultra precision balls to get it.
You also need special, HEAVY preloaded, HIGH CONTACT angle ball screw suppoort bearings to further rid yourself of backlash.
Do an "extrak" search on the CNCZONE - I went thru a treatise on what I did to create a zero backlash system in excruciating detail. ALthough the machine differs, the procedure remains the same...
