    What is this?

As I said at previous posts I bought that transformator from a scrap seller.

The transformator was in a metal box with another object which looks like a transformator. However this second thing has only two connecting cables.

Is there any idea what can be this thing?
Here is a picture of it:

That in all probability is a choke and it is used in power supplies for smoothing, i.e. reducing the ripple, There is usually an electrolytic cap after the rectifiers the choke is connected in series with the DC and another Electrolytic is connected on the output to the choke, this is known as a pi filter as the schematic would look like the letter pi.

BTW it is a very efficient way of smoothing as the choke has a high impedance to ac (ripple) and very low resistance to the DC component.

gcamlibel, it seems to me that you are a very resourceful fellow. Are you self taught in the electronics or did you go to school?

    Degree?

    Thank you,

I am studying Mechanical Engineering at Middle East Technical University Ankara Turkey.

But electronics is my hobby. It is not related to my school.
