3D Software for making 2D nets from 3D Solid geometry

    Hi,

I have some existing models, modelled in Pro Desktop and would like to be able to fold out the sides of the model in order for the parts to be machined using an Roland EGX-300 engraver.

The parts would be cut from 2 mm styrene and a 90 degree engraving bit used to score "almost through" the edges to allow the part to be fabricated by folding up the endges and using a thin bead of poly cement to flow around the inside edges.

I can assemble the 2d drawing by rearranging the various sides and then aligning them but it'd be far simpler to be able to fold the parts straight out...is this possible?

It'd be great to be able to generate complex curved parts as a 2d drawing from the 3d model too.

Thanks for the Help in advance!

    Alan

This software will unfold any 3D model(dxf, 3DS,obj,...) to 2D surfaces to be cut and reassembled , it adds flaps, images, also it gives part numbering to help in reassembling. It is a grate program.

    Thanks!

The software is brilliant and just the thing I was looking for too!

I just loaded a STL file from Pro Desktop and now I have the net for the model - complete with tabs too!

    Hi Alan,
If you complete the model assembly later can you send a photo for it.

Here's a couple of shots of some small parts I've made using my desktop engraver. I'm still working out the best means of assembling the models but the software you recommended is quite useful at folding out the pieces so I can cut the nets from a flat sheet.

    WOW...
    Very brilliant work Alan...
also I think that you did a very good work using the software in a very complicated model...!
