Hi guys

i have recently started my hobby of machining at home and after a few months of learning i have come to a right stumper of a problem ( well for me it is )

running a syil x 5 with mach 3

whilst trying to engrave using the 4th axis i am seeing the A values correct on the loaded code screen but the chuck does not revolve to the same values
4 simples lines at 90 degrees around a 20mm cylinder just none of the lines are engraved on the right degrees

sure its a simple fix im overlooking

I know nothing about Mach, but on some machines you need to tell the machine the diameter of the part.

Check your steps per unit settings. Remember, with a rotary axis, the units are degrees, not inches or mm. Touch off to a cylinder mounted on the 4th axis, make a mark there, and tell it to move 360 degrees. If it doesn't come back to the mark, adjust those settings until it does. then try 3600 degrees.

Hi thanks for both replies .

i set the 4th axis at TDC and using mach 3 did a 360 degree movement and the chuck revolved 2 3/4 times so i was guessing the step units where wrong.

after a bit of mucking about failed attempts and overlooking the obvious i now know that A axis should be set to 400 units like the same setting for XYZ.....bit of overlooking the obvious but got there in the end.
