    8k rpm X3 spindle?

I just purchased a handheld tachometer. I did a gear swap on my X3 to increase the spindle speed, which was supposed to be a 6k final speed. In low gear, my spindle tops out a little over 4k, and in high it hits right at 8k.

This seems too high to me, is it unsafe?- hard on the spindle?

I thought my spindle lacked low end grunt, and now I see why. I think I might re-gear to hit the 6k ish mark, but am curious if 8k is actually bad on the spindle.

    Thanks,

    Ben W

I'm not an X2 expert although I have owned one.
Stock bearings probably not rated for more than 5500 rpm.
Wouldn't be pretty if one seized or blew apart at 8K ..

You'll for sure want to make sure the gears and bearings are properly greased, and not over-greased. Then, just run it for a while, and see how hot it gets. High speed will generate a lot of heat if the bearings/gears are not properly setup. If it's not running hot, it's fine. But I'd be amazed if that was the case...

i ran my x3 at 4k rpm for about a year and cooked the bearings. It was NOT worth the massive headache imo
