1st off - What DNC (communication) software are you using?

Are you talking about com port 1 on the laptop? If so, I'm not allowed to use that one or #2 so far as I can tell.

I see that I should be on port 0 in the control to have RS232 on machine active.

I would imagine that the DNC software requires either Com port 1 or 2 designation.
    do this
Go into Control Panel, System, hardware, device manager. Locate and expand
the ports section. Right-click on the port you want to change and choose
Properties. On teh Port Settings tab choose Advanced. In the lower left
is a dropdown where you can change the com port number assignment. CHoose
OK back to the desktop, and the device should now be at that location.
to make sure (or change if needed) the port address of your computers serial port.
In the parameters of the machine check to see what the baudrate is set at.
In machine set up in the DNC software set to same baud as your control is.
    also 7 data bits
    EVEN parity
    1 stop bit
    handshake will be Xon/Xoff

Did you build your COM cable to Fadal specs?

Also to send do TA,1,1 on the control and then send from the DNC.

If you want a copy of NCFadal, shoot me an email.
You just leave the control at the command prompt and either DNC or send from it and the control switches over by itself.
It also has a com test designed for the 88HS

It appears that only com3 is used on the software I have so I assume I need to reset the serial port as com port 3?All is as you say.I bought it from FadalCNC.com, I assume it's correct since fadal is all they sell.I'll check it out for sure tomorrow,I'm pretty sure it's a com issue. Duh.

You cannot change the address of a port in Device Manager. You could go into CMOS setup and change the port address in the BIOS but this should not be necessary.
Using Device Manager you can, however, find out what address (com1, com2, etc.) the serial port is using. This is the port address you choose in NCLink.

NCLink shows port 3 being the only one that it accepts.I assume port 3 then is the serial port as no other port option will work. If I try any other port I get an error code and told to try another port. When I use port 3 I get info on baud:9600 ,bits:7,parity:even, start at computer setting , flow control setting and a message of "Ready to send!" It then shows send activity when I hit start but it shows that even if the DB25 cable is disconnected. WTH? I get a "waiting for machine" message when trying to send program from machine to nc program. I assume that shows I have no connection with the control.

Could this be a hardware issue instead of a software issue now?

You could have a different baud rate just check your fadal or do a test at the command type in CD,7 which is 4800 baud and test out different combos. You Fadal must be waiting for the program BEFORE you send it. TA,1 deletes the current program and sets up for recieving the program from your PC. PU will send the program to your PC AND THE TOOL TABLE so beware that the tool heights and diameters may change if you dont edit your G code after you send it back to your PC.. Check your settings using SETP command in the command line. Its frusterating at first but you will learn to get the hang of it.
We have had good luck with our Fadals milling mostly soft steel and aluminum up to 5 axis. We are always looking for spare parts If you have a broken down Fadal give a shout.

Already done all that. I've got the hang of all that ,I think. I understand all the settings and have made all match up correctly. I understand the TA,1 has to be done before sending code to machine also. Guys like you are why I know of these things Thanks to all! Frustrating ,? yes ,but no more so than learning CHinese without an instruction book.LOL!!!!!!!

This works on ALL my XP Pro machines and my XP home laptop. Are you logged in as administrator?

Yes it could be hardware issue. Try the com tests in NCFadal.

UPDATE! Due to my ignorance the db25 cable IS wrong. I hit the end of my patience and just bought a Calmotion internal usb for it. LOL!!!
Just for grins and giggles I'd like to know WHY the standard db25 pinout is NOT used? SHEESH!!!!!
