    Alternatives to Proto-Trak Lathes

I am looking into buying a 1440 Proto-Trak Lathe New at about $23k. My shop does a lot of repair and the Trak machines are really great for simple 1-offs like a stepped and threaded shaft or a tapered shaft etc... The issues I have with the Trak are that in this size range with the ELX control is that I cannot cut a tapered thread like a pipe thread. The other drawback is that the spindle bore is only 1-9/16. Really the bore is more of an issue with any 14" lathe. What I would like to know. Is there a direct competitor to the Proto-Trak in this price range? Under $30k to my floor.

@Robert Copeland- I can go to the larger PT lathe. But the larger machine is a also limited. They are a VF drive not a geared head. So they have no torque below 500rpm or so. We have some large diameter threads we cut like 4"-4TPI in Hasteloy.
