    Bearings = bearings?

    I'm going to order new bearings for my HF geared-head mill spindle, but wondering if I should get aftermarket units. I'd like to also find ones that are the same dimensions, but can handle higher speeds, as I'll work on getting a faster motor or convert to belt drive later to get higher spindle speeds.

    Are there any better brands of bearings I should look into?

    Thanks,
    -Neil.

    What about VXB or Mcmaster (although their bearings are unbranded/unstated)? I tend to choose the easily-orderable sources (ie: online) before going to the wait-for-quotes sources. I might just try local sources too.

    cnczoner,

    I just found a site last night while looking for Timken roller bearings.

    www.bearingsdirect.com

    They had the actual Timken bearing I was looking for at 1/3 the cost of McMaster, so you may want to check it out.

    Have you looked at SKF or NSK?? They carry all kinds of bearings for every application.

    I generally buy bearings over Ebay. You can normally find everything except the really exotic P2 spindle bearings.
