G84 and G74 are indeed all that is usually needed to tap on most CNC Mills, however it does all depend on just how the MTB have setup their control to work with rigid tap.
If what you say is correct then the HAAS must be permanently in rigid tap mode if the option is available and is probably a "macro" that is called whenever any tap command is introduced so the basic G84/G74 tapping cycle will run as rigid tap.
I put the info up as most machines I have worked on have been set so that if the rigid tap "option" is enabled it still has to be "called" by a G code in the program, this has both advantages and disadvantages but is the usual way of doing things that I have come across.
It may well be different if the tapping cycle is input at the machine control as it is as far as I know semi/full conversational.
As I said before I don`t have a HAAS so I was only assuming, to be certain I would need the HAAS manual for the machine![]()
