Oh yeah,
I forgot to post that this was done with simple 4th axis indexing. We've been dong some wrapping on ring work too! The wrapping works great on cylindrical stock and pockets and profiles our parts well.

The more I explore the surfacing tools the more powerful I realize it is!

I really cant wait to pressure the new HSP toolpath operations. I look forward to the productivity that will provide me!

Yes, even though we're just learning the system and cam machining it is obviously well worth the money. I'm sure the higher-end packages are nice, but this is going to get the job at a fraction of the cost for the software.

I agree with something I saw posted in another thread. Be careful what you wish for. They could definitely improve the product in many ways I'm sure, but that's when they will start charging the high-end prices also. Bobcad is a very good, economical package.

bob cad v23 works very well.wasnt happy with v22 though.

Ya i have art too. but really havent had the time to learn it.I would like to make a 3d skull out of a 2d pic sometime.For a motorcycle brake light.

A really cool new thing in V23 BobArt is the "emboss from surface". SO if you wanted to do a skull, the old way, the depth of the emboss was very limiting and had to be finnessed to look good. Now you can create a 3d skull at whatever size, THEN, lay the emboss ontop of the skull model to bring out detail. You could create a large skull with veins and everything!!!

I have been looking at some machines and came across a Hurco KMB1.
I went and looked at the mill and took my Laptop and used a 2.5D Dos based CAM Pgm. Drew a Pocket/Profile/drill Pgm.(using Hurco Post Processor).
Saved it as a .CNC file. loaded it on his Laptop. He drip fed the pgm with his Laptop...I told him I also had Bob/Cad Pgm. He said it didnt matter as long as it was G Code. He said the RS232 Port had to be set up rite....baud rate ect.
I didnt buy the machine..but he stressed that the communication between the P/C and the Machine tool was the Imporntant factor. The file we used was actually saved to his desktop....As far as my usage of BobCad V23...I have to say it is well worth the money that I invested. I am Most Definately In a Teach/Learn mode with it. But Satisfied..
Ohh shouldnt you be able to use Predator to drip feed? Just asking..not knowing??

I will remain firm that V22 was a piece of garbage. Yeah, some people had success with it but not if you run limited production like we do. Too much time to remember how to work around everything and in general the software (especially the simulation) was a resource hog. SLOOOOWW....

My experience with V23 has been largely positive. I don't quite utilize all the new features that were included but the ones I do have been a tremendous help. I still use my V21 from time to time because it can't be beat for most 2D work that I do. Work on the tool database and the system/manual tool selection and I would have almost no complaints.

My top 3 software packages for performance/cost are in order:

BobCAD V21
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4
BobCAD V23

...and I might have paid more for one seat of X4 than I did for both V21 and V23 put together.

When/if BobCAD can machine 2.5D from a 3D solid, the bigger packages (i.e. Mastercam, Gibbs, etc.) better watch out.

Jharts1 you are correct that's where the problem is. Apparently the predator that comes with Bobcad does not DNC (drip feed). It has a "Wait for CNC" button you can click, what's that for???????

LOL, LOL, Thanks Toby. Yes,Burrman I have spoken with ("the one"), and I still cannot drip feed using predator editor that comes with bobcad. However, I borrowed another DNC and was drip feeding in minutes. hmmmm? Mopar stay tuned, I will pm you when I have a resolution. Thanks again Toby for the info.

One of the great benefits of a "User" forum is that the "cummulative" experience of the many users add up to solutions to most problems. I guess you would rather "PM" any solution if you find it and also miss out on the "cumulative experience" part of the forum also.

BTW:
There are "MANY" people drip feeding with the predator editor. Seems the only secret is "why your's wont!" Hahahaha! (Maybe Toby's valuable input will get it going for you.)
