    Bonehead lesson of the day

I had another Bonehead moment yesterday.
    I set up my mill.
Set up all of my tools.
    Set home, set tool lengths.
    Double checked the program.
    READY!!!
Hit cycle start, and the spindle goes UP, and over travels, ALARM!!!
    Double check 'H1' and 'G54'... all's well.
    Try again, spindle goes up!!!
Try tool #2, spindle goes up!!
    What-the-hell???!!!!
    ........................
So I study my program for 10 minutes, re-check everything...check my set up, check tools, check program
re-check my tool table, and there it was.
I'd entered all of my tool lengths into the DIAMETER column instead of the HEIGHT column!!!
    D'OH !!!!!!!!!!!!! :withstupi
    Lesson learned.

Hey Russ, glad I'm not the only member of the club! Lol

Sorry man, it's a pain to re-enter all that stuff, but at least you didn't break anything.

I have done something similar, when i forget to hit the run button for an operation in Sprutcam it will do this, it will post process fine but when the program is started it goes to z limit and x limit.

This happens occasionally but at least I know whats wrong now when it does this now.

    That won't work worth squat.
You can buy GOOD PARTS or you can buy CHEAP PARTS, but you can't buy GOOD CHEAP PARTS.

    Me too
Last week I was running parts on my newly configured path pilot at 1:00 am for a deadline.
I crashed a drill bit and saw that I had mixed up the fool dimension with tool length when I input the new tool.
    I just went to bed

It happens to most of us at some point. Considering that even a tiny decimal point can mean the difference between glory or gory, it pays to double check.

I love that! I am going to shamelessly steal this saying. Mistakes suck period. They suck even more if you are at the very end of the various processes to finish a complex product. At that point all that awesome value that you have added can be rendered worthless with an error or failure. Whenever possible I try to order my operations so that the ones with the highest probability of failure are performed first (deep drilling, tapping holes...etc.). At least in the OP's case he didn't sink a cutter through the part and into the table or fixture :-). Gotta be positive!
