    bridgeport series 1 steppers heatsink removal

    any one done this I ve undone the small and large allen screws how are the motors fixed in to the heat sink

    The manual says not to remove the heatsink from motor as "the annular gap between the motor ouside diameter and the heatsink inside diameter between the o-rings is filled with silicon grease"
    So I would think from that it may just be the grease that is holding the motors in place, probably after 20yrs it has set like glue.Might be worth a try to heat them up with a hair dryer or something to see if the grease softens.
    One other word of warning from the manual is "The magnetic characteristics of the motor are destroyed if the armature is removed" so make sure you dont do that.
