    re

Just not advertising it's cutting prowess, plus all those chips make a mess, doesn't look good on video. ...............

People always advertise 'from working machine' or 'ran when parked' figured I'd prove it, at least for the parts.

Smile BTC finds a new home in CT.

Hey Gus, from my prospective the BTC followed me home and my wife said I could keep it.:banana:

Thank you for being a class act and helping with the loading.

The BTC is in the yard under cover and will probably go inside on Saturday, as soon as I sharpen the saw and cut a very large hole in the building.

Since the deal I had going for the other BTC seems to have fallen thru, I will be getting this one up and running instead of using it for parts.
My one true hope is that in time I will be able to get the tool changer going.

I hope that you stop by from time to time to say hello to the clubhouse.
    Mike

P.S. I took some pictures during the move and will post them when I get a chance.

    Question Error codes for BTC-1

Does anyone have a list of definitions on BTC-1 error codes? I just got a 70107 on startup, and don't know what it means

having a new problem with my BTC, it wont seem to go into higher speeds the solinoid just pullses and the spindle speeds up then slows down again and again. i figured its just a sticking solinoid, sounds like its on top of the machine. any one have any ideas??

if i set the speed anywhere from 0 to 2500 it works fine

    Shiftles BTC

hkfanatic I think the proublem lies in the "shoe box" it's located on the right side of the head aprox 5"X7" inside there are at least three micro switches that read the position of the cam on the end of the back gear shaft the service mantance manual detailes the adjustment I hade a switch that the arm was bent and it would work for a while then it would act up usualy coming off of a taping cycle would run slow and not make the gear change .
take the fiberglass off and the lid of the shoe box and change speed up and down and you can see what is happining the cam has a split in it and if you take a screw driver and help it along it should lock in Good luck if you need maintnce manual I can email the instructions Kevin

ok new development the spindle is not starting no matter what speed i set it to in the program it turns but again kinda pulses i can hear the air solenoid pulsing. heres the odd part.

if i jump up on the machine (i know really safe) and put my finger over one of the exhaust vents on the block between the solenoid pack (i cannot remember which one exactly it was the 2nd or 3rd down from the top ) and kinda plug it just enough to give the air some resistance the spindle will start up just fine.

im figuring bad solenoid, i have some extra ones but my maintenance manual is missing the section on pneumatics. i'll get the number thats next to that vent tonight and post it.

    what do you guys think?

There is a red button in the center of each selonid valve use a small screwdriver or a oring pick to acuaite the valves and get un stuck turn the air oiler up with marvel mistry oil in it and keep working the valves should free up I seem to rember having some trouble like this and went through all the switch adjustment's in the head and shoe box. will it orent the spindle M19 that would be back gear and check for lose wire on the spindel pickup or a lose wire on the term. strip at the selonid's Good luck Kevin

it orients the spindle fine, i assume your talking about like when its doing a tool change?? where the spindle stops at a specific point. i think its just a dirty or stuck solinoid like you said, i'll fill the air oiler up and turn the psi up maby i can get them to unstick.

Just a hello, I finally unearthed my BTC-1 out of storage where it's been sitting for 5 years and moved it into my shop. Kind of a low priority to get it running, too much other stuff going on, but I'll be poking at it here and there.

Supposedly, it came out of a teaching center somewhere around Indianapolis. Most got sent off to China, but this one wouldn't fit on the truck and got sold to a local dealer. I ended up with it and hauled it up to Detroit. It's a little grimey, but the frosting is present on all the ways, so it didn't get beat up too badly. At least the mice didn't get into the wiring while it was in storage.

Didn't get much in the way of documenation, anyone have any manuals? I have the Maintenance manual and 3 of 8 of the wiring sheets (1, 3 and 5). I'm looking for programming, operation and installation docs as well as the missing sheets. I'll be happy to trade scans.

Eventually, I'll probably do a refit with EMC once it gets too expensive to keep the old hardware running, but I'd like to play with it as is.

    BTC help

Paul Ebay#260023945804 Programing manual I will look at what I have for the wiring doc's I asume you want the voltage change diagrams you may need heater strip's for the contactor in the spindel drive the rest is jumper wires unless it is 208v or you need 208v then it will require a transformer . also the fuses in the main disconect are different for each line voltage Good luck Kevin

Thanks Kevin, that's one more manual down.

I'd like to get all the wiring sheets; I'm terrible tracking down faults without a schematic. I think it's currently set up for 220, but I'll need to check that. The dealer powered it up for me, but we came up with an error condition. It's been too long ago to remember what that was. I'm sure it will show up again when the power is applied.

    MY BTC1 ISINT CUTTING RADIUS'S!!!!!!

Im haveing an issue and i do not think it is my programming. so far as of yet i havent gotten the machine to do any G02, G03 commands correctly.

i have tried useing R and i have tried useing I and J

here is a Section of my code, i have tried posting in the G code command section of these forums and have done every thing that was suggested to me. so im concerned its a problem with my BTC.

when it gets to line #10 the first G03 command instead of doing a radius it acts like a G01 command and tries to go to Y.938 in a straight line. i hit the set up enable button to stop the machine befor i destroy my stock or bit.

    um help!!!!

    Encoder Coupling, NC400 Repair

After about a month of operation my repaired encoder coupling failed. I replaced it with McMaster-Carr part# 59925K92 and was back in business. Then my Y axis quit. I traced the problem to the drive. I decided to have it fixed rather than buy one in unknown condition on ebay. I found Controls Service & Repair, Inc. right here in Pittsburgh! It turns out that they are former Contraves employees who built these drives. They purchased the parts stock etc. when that division was shut down. I was very pleased with their service. They can repair the servo motors too.

    Round Holes

While HK is making straight lines, I'm making ovals!

The job is to enlarge a hole in a molded rigid plastic part about .100 thick from .500 dia. to .628 dia. I'm using a 1/8" dia. 2 flute end mill.

    Program:

    N10F30.0
    N15S200M3
    N20G00X0Y0
    N25Z.020
    N30G01
    N35Z-.125
    N40G90
    N45G79J.251
    N50M25
    N55G00X0Y2.
    N60M05
    N65M02

The hole is oval with undesize diameter in the -XY to X-Y quadrants. The long axis measures .640, the short axis .610. It appears to me that the X axis is not responding as quickly as it should. I have loosened the gibs, adjusted the response on the X and Y drives per the manual, and adjusted the backlash pots. I have used G75 on another part with similar results. If I slow the feedrate to about 7.5 ipm (using the feedrate pot), then the error goes down to about .005".

A similar part with a rectangular cut out comes out right on size.

    Your thoughts please.
    Thanks,
    Chip
