You're right! The wall is too bare. More will go on it later.
The oak calendar is actually less time consuming to finish because I can spray on a few coats much faster than waiting for the brushed on finish that disappears into the MDF. I like it better than MDF, but the MDF shows off the finer details better. The wood grain causes the details to get lost from some viewing angles.
Today was a complete waste. I just couldn't get fired up at all. My former employer came by and looked the shop and CNC machine over. Last time he visited two years ago the place was almost empty.

The first trick is to not melt the acrylic too much when cutting, use of a real sharp bit and low RPM, and maybe a coolant/lubricant.
If the surface is only a little bit ripped up you can polish it with a soft brush and some vaseline to seal the surface, it will go quite clear.
A coat of clear spray varnish works really well too.

The early morning low angle sunlight casts a shadow that really shows just how detailed the red oak can be with the right conditions. I recommend trying it.

Hi Carveone,
I've been a long time lurker of your thread and just want to say your work outstanding.
That carving looks great, I think in would be great for a coffee table top under glass.
Anyway keep up the great work.
Rob:wave:
Thanks very much Rob,
Stay tuned, I have glued up another oak board in preparation for making a 24" version for a friend. His will be round with a rounded over 1/2" wide (or so) outer border. The wood is more straight grained this time.
A hall table top has been shown here recently that will have glass over it. I'm waiting to see how that one looks when finished.

Hey Carve,
Definitely sign up on the Vectric Forum....you won't find a better bunch to get help from. I worked my way up through the Vectric upgrade path starting with Cut2D and now I have Aspire...Best software experience I have ever had !!
And any day now when Aspire 3.0 comes out the money will fly out of my pocket so fast they won't know what hit em...
Have fun and I'll see ya over there !
Jeff
Already did it this morning Jeff, thanks for the invitation. Same user name as here. If things work out ok next time I'm due for an upgrade I'll go to Aspire then. I'm staying too busy with these calendars right now to spend a lot of time there. I hope the one I'm working on now is the last one for a while.
Did you see the link to Hyrum R's site to download the files? It's probably 7 or 8 pages back by now.

I did not see the links, but I will look for sure....
Your calendars are really nice looking....I will have to try one, but I'm too busy with work and trying to build my new machine....and I'm not sure I trust my existing router to cut one of those without choking. Been having some trouble with random loosing of steps....bummer.
BTW, my user name is the same over at Vectric as well...
Later then,
Jeff
I won't be spending much time there if the site keeps logging me out every time I change to another page. Gotta hold a seance with the administrator I suppose. I didn't see much info about it in the FAQ. Maybe they put me on a 90 second probation so I couldn't do much damage?

Vcarve Pro is supposed to be updated by end of November as well. I bought it just in time to upgrade it.

Well, I think I'm just about done the DXF. Here is a render vcarve...
Might get you busy again just when you get done C1.
It's late so I'm off to bed, hopefully finish it up in the next day or so..
Man, that's looking good Arbo! I need to come up to speed with this kind of thing myself. Still too busy with a 24" calendar, and need to do more work on machine homing and limits, surface plane, auto Z zero, etc.

Thanks, here is the dxf for anyone interested in turning it into gcode. A 4 meg zip file.
If you do, let us know, I don't know when I'll be able to get around to carving one.
