    Changing drive gears

I have an '03 era Multicam M series 4'x8' table, the x and y axis gears need to be replaced due to wear, I called my Multicam distributor and they said that part doesn't exist any more but they think they have a replacement for it, turns out to be the wrong size, 40 tooth instead of 25 tooth, my question is can I change out the different sized gears and then change the parameters in the driver settings? MC couldn't answer that question. Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks
