    Question Chess board materials suggestions

I have designed a simple chessboard which I think should be easy to make on my router, and I am hoping that someone here can give me some material suggestions. The attached renderings show the board made of solid wood, but I am not set on this. I would like something attractive, and easy to mill, and would be glad to use plastic, corian, pluwood, etc. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
