I purchased this cnc on ebay and I know what you all will say..its crap and throw it away. But im a hobby wood turner and this machine was mainly used for engraving pen boxes and thats it... well 4 months into owning it the z axis just stopped going up and down. The motor hums but doesnt move. I contacted the seller and.was.blocked without help. Go figure..

List if things I have done
Switch z motor with x axis motor and issue stayed at z axis telling me the motor is good.

Checked the wiring for connectivity will multimeter and all wires are good.

Control board? Has anyone had this issue and.fixed it with replacing a component?
I dont want to buy a new.control board if I dont have to as I use this very rarely and would just break the bank.

You already know which of 4-pin male connector on the board is for the Z-axis, trace which driver IC it's coming from and replace the faulty stepper driver IC.

I didnt even think of that. I just ordered a whole new driver board. Probably better with spindle control and 4 th axis for future

I hope the 4-axis version has better thermal management. Your picture of the older driver board has the driver IC poorly mounted on the case. There are 4 screws holding the 3 driver ICs and the one closest to the front has the mounting hole towards the back barely making contact with the screw. There is probably not enough pressure to provide good thermal contact with the case which lead to the original failure.

Im now tempted to fix this board and redo the screws...

Driver ICs cost like $5 off eBay, you got nothing to loose at this point and end up with a spare drive that might me more robust than the original. Add thermal paste to the IC's heat spreader while you are at it.

Thanks for the tips... with the origional board I wont have to figure out the motor pin outs since there is no diagram on these lol
