    parting tool chatter

    hello monkeyking,
what are the updates on you lathe?
did you tried a parting tool on your lathe yet?
I am having troubles with a parting tool on my lathe to cut 1inch dia of cold rolled steel. It makes a lot of chatter and noise and at last the spindle stops.
i kept the feed rate to 0.0005 inch per rotation. still it makes chatter.

    looking forward for your results,
    jasminder singh

    Hi jasminder,
My parting tools cut perfectly on my lathe.
I use S1500 and F15 (all in metric), plunge method.
For your case, parting tools should be a bit lower than centre of lathe.
And you said spindle stops, seems that the motor not enough power for me.

My Z axis out of precision as much as 0.02mm for 120mm
My X axis out of precision as much as 0.07mm for 180mm
.0028"/7" is alot of misalignment in my opinion. That should be looked at and corrected. You don't always hit a home run when building your own tools, either in correct design or machining of the parts. Being able to measure and correct the tool is the real deal.

Fantastic work, your lathe looks great. I hope you can share a video of it in action sometime.

Just curious - have you posted any pictures showing the gang tooling set up on the lathe?

Re: CNC Lathe made by Monkey King

That flimsy weldment frame probably twisted itself apart, and he's too embarassed to post any further pics.
