Kenrik ... let it die. You never bought one so it doesn't affect you. Neither did I but I was still hoping to see at least one person get one. Not sure what you beef with Dwayne is but no one lost money ... only the interest it would have accrued had they not loaned it to Mr. Harlow.

    On a happier note:

I started designing and building a CNC machine of my own as soon as I got my refund from Dewayne in May. I finished it yesterday and made the first trial cuts. It has 60 inches of travel in X, 12 in Y and 10 in Z. I designed these travels with the idea of cutting boards and sheets of brass for my camera manufacturing endeavor. The thing only rapids at 30 inches per minute in X and Z but hauls butt in Y at 125 IPM. This is due to Y axis being the only one with a ball screw. I had a ballscrew for Z but I overtravelled during testing and the balls fell out and will not go back in. I replaced it with a piece of all thread from Home Depot until I can find someone who can reload the balls for me. I can easily cut at 20 IPM.

I am working 12's until Monday and then I will post some pictures if anyone is interested.

Building was definitely better than waiting. Funny I haven't heard much lately from the people who were calling me a crybaby and generally being mean. I also haven't heard from the people who thought I was a jerk for wanting a refund.

Practicalcnc, December 12th of 06! Holy cow. Why are you pulling the plug so soon?

If I recall, it was around 15oct06 that I ordered, and I'm still waiting. Can't eat, can't sleep, all projects put on hold, therapy costs bankrupting me, now the IRS is at my door (reminds me of the IRS gunsmith I met at the Smith & Wesson academy...) I look like Howard Hughes in his later years (minus his bank account.)

Self analyzing now (and making up phrases while I'm at it), I'd say I suffer from ocular noncognitive misfortune fetish. I can't take my eyes off this dreary drama! I feel though, that with apparent life at the cellular level, the cncbridges organism may disinter itself and, well, who knows?

I've certainly lost more $ on other things by accident. By golly, this time I'm going to do it on purpose!

Come on, Harlow, I'm rooting for you, I think.

Here is a photo of the new mill I told you about. In this picture the Porter Cable router spindle is fitted. I am currently working on the X2 vertical head attachment. The plate which is located on the Z axis slide with one round and one diamond pin comes off by removing four socket head cap screws. There will also be another X2 head which mounts with the spindle in the horizontal position in case I need to run a slitting saw parallel to the X axis and in addition this mount will allow the spindle to be parallel to the X axis for cutting gear racks along the Y axis up to twelve inches wide and five feet long. This rack cutting attachment will require a sub spindle due to the small diameter of gear cutters available.

This machine may seem short on Z clearance and Y travel to most people considering the length of X. Keep in mind that this machine was made specifically for cutting boards and sheets of brass, neither of which are very thick. Also, there was the problem of space. My workshop is in a small one car garage and shares space with a 9x20 metal lathe, minimill, 6 inch horizontal bandsaw, 14 inch vertical bandsaw, jointer, thickness planer, huge 3HP cabinetmakers table saw, mig welder, large radial arm saw, sixty gallon air compressor, roll away tool chest, lumber storage, and laundry facilities. So footprint was of utmost importance. It is amazing how much stuff you can fit in a small shop if you locate it efficiently.

The bench in the picture is the one I built to house the Harlow table.

Barry, look'n good! That mill is pretty nifty too!

I'm curious about how you best achieved parallelism of a given rail set, and the flatness of the geometric plane that set defines, not to forget the squareness of one rail set to the other. I should go back and read your posts.

    Nice job.

    Hi Mark:

Please do a search on CNC Zone for "Board Mill". I wrote a blog about the construction of this machine and called it that. All your questions can be answered in great depth there.

    Thanks for the nice comments.

    Barry,
Now that's a sight to behold. I'd be proud too.

What took longer? The wait for a cnc-bridges table or the Barry Young table?

I waited four months for the Harlow table. It took almost exactly four moths to design and build this machine knowing nothing about what I was doing when I started. I took three weeks off when I got upset after breaking two taps. So I would say it was quicker to build one and since nobody has received a Harlow table, it was definitely quicker to make one. X is much longer too.

    Thanks for the kind words.

It has been over 3 months since we received a refund from Dewayne Harlow. Has anyone received a single base? At this point the project simply arouses curiosity.

Hi Barry, looking at your machine, I see two rows of thompson linear guide rails for the X axis. How do you make sure the bearing roll over the rail without any play? Does the bearing have some sort of adjustor to tighten the grip onto the rail? Have been thinking of getting some rails but not sure how it actually works. Can you direct me to an online store if you know one where you get the rails? Thanks.

    Hi Alex:

I got my slides from Ebay. The long ones for X were a challenge. Out of desperation I contacted the guy selling the most linear slides and asked if he had any 72 inch ones. He did. I bought them.

The only way I can think of adjusting them is to replace the recirculating balls with larger ones. I have purchased 10 pairs of linear ways on ebay and none of them needed adjusting.

    Good luck

    Barry

hello guys,i was wondering if there is still an interest in a similar table to cncbridges?not apoxy granite mind you,if you think about it you cant make what harlow has for that cheap, unless you mass produce them, which he hasnt the capacity,i own a cnc production shop and have made several table cnc machine for a fun and sold then when i was done,im working on a prototype with 10 x 20 inches travel that uses the sieg X2
z colum assembly,if any one might be interested maybe i will setup and make a bunch to sell, but no payments up front,i only sell finished product,if theres big enough interest i could do it at a resonable cost

    Sorcheror,

Yes, an improved X2 base would absolutely be popular. I don't know what else explains the tremendous attention given to the original CNCBridges announcement thread. All the initial hopeful comments and questions and the eventual pee'd-off comments and questions both suggest an improved X2 base would scratch an persistant itch, fill a nitch, whatever.

Man, go for it. In a sense, cncbridges may have helped prime the (market) pump for you. Interestingly, the current Epoxy-Granite Machine Bases thread may owe part of its genesis to Harlow's 'polymer concrete' unit. I believe one or more contributors to the EG thread are considering an X2 base themselves. You better get on it.

Sorcheror, seriously though, I don't think you have to guess about this one; I'm sure there are folks working right now behind the scenes on a killer X2 improvement (EG, steel, cast iron, whatever) trying to beat you and everyone else to it!

    Show us what you got.

You shouldn't have any trouble selling larger tables. There was a huge demand for Harlows till he couldnt deliver. I had ordered mine over a year ago and thankfully i got a refund 6 months ago. I for one would be intersted.

Arrow Time to DEAL WITH HARLOW

    Hello Folks,
I ordered a table and z axis over a year ago. I live in the UK and have every promise made to me broke. I would like to compile a list of all people who have ordered recieved and not recieved product from Harlow.

We don't know how much money Harlow has collected but it is time to find out. Even though I am in the UK I am willing to travel to the USA and sit down with the police and the DA to bring charges against this man.
