Collision alarm 1187 on Z-axis when at 50% on rapid

    Hitachi Seiki HiCell CA40-II

We are getting the Z-axis collision alarm 1187 more and more frequently when we're running our program with the rapid override set to only 50%. To avoid the alarm, we have to run it at 10%. No actual collision is happening. Previously we would get this occasionally when running a repetitive milling cycle (with small Z rapid movements), but now it's happening all the time and during turning operations as well. It happens during the rapid movements. We have checked and set the backlash, but that didn't change anything. Are there any parameters (acceleration/deceleration) which can be changed to help the issue? I don't think I want to adjust the collision detection threshold (do I?).

If it’s getting progressively worse I would look towards the drive itself, the collision detection (depending on the setting) is usually an larger than anticipated current in the drive for its movement - so it thinks it physically crashed when it didn’t. If the base of the drive is weak over time this will happen - eventually it won’t move even in 25% or 1% or even a slow feed rate. Get a new drive or take yours out to get it rebuilt (or rebuild yourself - it’s not too hard!)

Thanks shas595. Would you be more suspicious of the motor or the servo amplifier? This machine only has one servo amplifier that runs all axes.

I would start on the servo drive side. I replace 100 drives for every 1 motor, especially it being multi axis one
