I was looking into Xylotex 4-axis drive box. It is rated at 30V and 2.5amps/phase. The steppers that come with the kit are rated at 2.8amp/phase. Im just curious if those stepper would be dangerous to the kit, since they seem to draw more current than what the drive box is rated at. Also, would 296oz/in motors be sufficient if planning to occasionally mill aluminum.

I was also considering the PicoCNC control box, it has pretty much the same specs but is slightly cheaper. Thanks for any input.

The drives determine the current they supply, not the motors. The Xylotex can only supply 2.5A to the motors, which will result in a roughly 10% loss of the motors rated torque.

As for the motors being sufficient, there are many more factors involved than just what you are cutting. Each machine has different requirements, so it's hard to say.
You said 296, but did you mean the 269 oz motors from Xylotex? Those are about the biggest motors you can use with a Xylotex and still get decent performance. You can get similar ones for a little less from Automation Direct. http://web1.automationdirect.com/adc.../STP-MTR-23079
