    Re: Convert Step/Dir to +/- 10V

    Hi,
to OP: forget trying to convert Step/Direction to analogue. As has been pointed out.....IF.....all you require is speed control, then a F/V converter will be fine. IF however, you require position control,
then you need a PID feedback capable controller....and that is wasting your time. Buy a Step/Direction servo and be done with it. It will probably work out cheaper than any PID drive, but more importantly be
way more certain at getting a good result.

I use 750W Delta B2 servos, which are Step/Direction capable, and they are superb.

    Re: Convert Step/Dir to +/- 10V

For smaller machines agreed, but the machines I converted had massive servos and drives, that were fully functional and retaining the original equipment was a big cost and time advantage, as it was only the proprietary controller that was grossly outdated and becoming problematic. Using the audiohms converter solved that issue. I was able to update to a modern step and direction system, yet retain the original 'grunt'.

Changing out the servos at this scale would have been expensive and mechanically challenging.

If it was a smaller machine, sure junk it all and start over.

I agree with rotec. As an illustration, see the example of a TOS CNC milling machine retrofit:
