your issues seem similar to mine, double check that the stepper driver dip switches are set for nema 34 steppers and not nema 23...

Which stepper driver dip switches? I have the PMDX-126 and Gecko G203Vs.

4-Axis DIY Nema 34 Electronics Kit | CNCRouterParts with the G203V instead of G201X.

And remember the machine does not shake with any code either hand written or from Vcarve. Only shakes while running code form Autodesk Fusion 360 or HSMxpress. Both an autodesk product.

Oops sorry about that. I should of read further back in your build thread. I thought you had the G201X which has config dip switches for nema 34 steppers.

Yes, try bumping the lookahead to 200.
Look at the Settings page for CV Feedrate. Make sure it's off.

    Hi Nick,

ger21 gave excellent suggestions for CV - I'd check that out (CV Feedrate)

That said, I given your description I suspect you are seeing a over aggressive HSMWorks / Fusion 360 CAM profile fitment strategy (they share the same CAM kernel).

Fusion / HSMWorks default smoothing filter tolerance values tend to favor accuracy in profile fitment over smoothness, you can especially see this in adaptive clearing operations but others as well. If you have a drawing with lots of points on it combined with this default tendency for hyper-accuracy you can get the symptoms you describe.

I would suggest you ensure Smoothing is on and be prepared to likely adjust the Smoothing Tolerance in the operations you see shaking in - More information here --> About Adaptive Clearing | Fusion 360 | Autodesk Knowledge Network (search for "smoothing")

Screenshot from Fusion (HSMWorks similar) - Note: I try to keep tolerance and smoothing tolerance at the same value, this ensures that smoothing will not reduce accuracy from the overall accuracy of the setup.

There are some 3D operations that difficult to appropriately smooth, but your program should be able to be setup run smooth as butter without any perceptible loss in accuracy.

As an aside - When generating gcode from Fusion I generally recommend folks use the CNCRouterParts POST processor going forward (though for reasons unrelated to your issue).

Hope this helps, it was great meeting you at Portland Maker Faire!

    Re: CRP4848 Nema 34 Build

Nathan I will check those settings out.

Where can I get that post processor for fusion 360?

I thought the smoothing would put the machine into doing many arc motions, which also cause a pause at the start of each arc?

If you're in CV mode, you shouldn't be seeing a pause between any moves.

Hi Nick - It comes built into Fusion 360. It should be in the list, however let me know if you don't see it.

    Thanks!

The jerking around is still happening with HSMxpress, I have not yet tried Fusion360 agian.

But on to a little project.

I bough a set of igaging calipers. Love the screen size and they are much better then my cheap harbor frieght calipers on repeatability.

Amazon.com: iGaging IP54 Electronic Digital Caliper 0-6" Display Inch/Metric/Fractions Stainless Steel Body: Home Improvement

But the box they came in sucked. So I made one!

Flocked the inside with felt flocking material from here, Suede-Tex Flock - Products

I think it came out great for a first box project.

Do you mean you simply swapped the X and Y cables? If so, how did you handle the slave axis?

    Re: CRP4848 Nema 34 Build

So my router has been going strong, and last summer was upgraded to 4x8ft size and a welded steel table frame and is now rock solid!

Sorry about the blurry picture thought I had a better one, and can't get a good pick right now. TO much scrap from a camper my dad is building. That is a 52 inch tool cabinet from HomeDepot. Fits perfectly under the front edge of the table.

Built a new dust shoe, I will get some pictures up this weekend. Works much better then the old dust shoe.

But I could use a little help. I have never been able to come up with a good mounting method for the Z-axis Cable chain. Can anyone post about how they mounted the chain to the standard CNCRouterparts machines?
