At this point, since the mold has been made I don't think its practical to change the buttons themselves, but it would be very easy to change the source code on an individual pendant so that those buttons work the way you have described!

Thats the great thing about open source, if you don't like the way I have programmed the buttons you can change them any time you want!

    Ready to Launch Kickstarter!

I'm finishing up the kickstarter and should have it launched by the end of the
    week.

Lets talk money! I don't want to price gouge in any way, but I have spent a
significant amount of time getting this project off the ground.

Right now, I'm thinking of having a couple different options to purchase this
    pendant.

Since a bulk of the work on the production model is in building the case I was
thinking of offering a bare bones kit that just includes the bare PCB and molded
    rubber button set for $20.

A medium level do it yourself kit that includes the PCB with all components
soldered to it, and micro controller programmed. Plus the molded rubber button
    set for $35

A completely finished pendant with case, ready to run out of the box for $50.

Do these prices seem reasonable? I'm not going to hold any one to it, but who
here would purchase one? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I should set
    the Kickstarter goal for.

    Thanks!

    -Jerome

I love it and will probably buy one at $50, but I have a question...is the letter that hard to read in real life as it is in the first picture?

The buttons are really easy to read in real life, the pictures don't show this very well. I'll see if I can get a better picture up.

I am not a photographer, but I have had good luck solving this kind of problem by using film and scanning rather than a digital camera. Many digital cameras use a red sensor that "sees through" some surfaces. In fact, there are medical devices based on this concept.

We have that problem when taking digital pictures of my wife and daughters (you can see their blood vessels) but of course they solved it by using a special makeup designed specifically to solve the problem.

Wow, that was fast! Its mouth where your money is time (or something like that) Kickstarer approved and the project is live, get those orders placed! The more we get in the first few days the better the chances of being a featured project on Kickstarter become! You can purchase the pendants here:

    Really nice and small.
But for me, after having built my own pendant, I miss a- axis jogging and custom buttons that can be routed to other functions. (Not that I have thing in mind, just missed some functions your pendant has.)

Thanks for the support on this project everyone! I am very happy with the response I have had for this pendant, and am excited to start building and shipping them out.

If you have not picked one up yet, there are about 48 hours left on the Kickstarter! If you would like to order one you can get it here:

These will most likely not be up for sale again until next Feb or March, as I fulfill all the Kickstarter orders and then tool up for another batch. So if you would like one soonish the Kickstarter campaign is the best way to get it.

Thanks again for the support everyone, and now the next question. What open source hardware/electronic project would people like to see next?
