    Cut maybe, Engrave?? help please..

I'm trying to get a 40W Chinese laser engraver up and running. It was originally installed with it's own controller board and the "RD??" software. The unit has since had the controller replaced with a DSP AWC-608 controller and LaserCAD from LightObject.com . After trying to get things going, the orienteering by coordinate is working well. Last Monday, we succeeded to get cutting to reasonably function. However, Engraving is not coming out well at all. I've included the original graphic used, and the result when "engraved" on wood.
The later picture should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The software says it's supposed to burn for the black pixels, but it seems to burn across the whole sweep (but the laser does flicker?). It's a very strange behavior.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Have you converted this to a vector file? Did a bitmap tracing? It seems like it is only seeing the outline (cutting) or outline (scanning). Looks to be scanning as there is depth.
    Thanks,

This is an update of what the answer is to this issue if someone ever experiences it. The cause of this behavior in our case had to do with the wiring of the laser psu and the controller. The logical control for turning the laser on and off (where ground was on) was mis-wired with this directly wired to ground. The laser was never turning off - consequently why the graphic was getting filled in. Wiring the laser psu properly resolved the issue.
