Hello,
I have imported a clock wheel into vcarve and selected just the outer vector (tooth profile) so not to concern itself with the crossing out and centre hole. I want to cut the wheel profile out and so have selected profile toothpath. The gap between teeth is 2.4mm and I have my smallest 1.95mm endmill selected. I have chosen to cut "outside/right" but the preview is showing that it will cut mushroom shaped teeth as the cutter seems to be undercutting the tooth profile. It is going into the root of the tooth and then moving too far either side to create an undercut of the tooth tip.
I think it is perhaps because the cutter is trying to cut right into the root of the tooth which it clearly can`t do because of the radius of the cutter? - is that why I`m getting this problem?
Is there anyway of stopping this from happening - I almost need to tell it to cut as near to the vector it can go without going into the vector and ignore any areas it can`t get to due to the cutter radius.
I know for a fact that a lot of people are using cut2d to cut wheel but none of them describe the settings they are using. Also, is there a better tool than an small endmill to be using to cut this out...I presume there must be a narrower option for smaller wheels i.e smaller gaps.
Very sorry if there is an obvious answer or way to correct this! Any help appreciated!
Chris
