I have a Shop Vac like that maybe next size up, 2 inch hose and it worked fine on a 2+2 foot vac taable.

Just had to comment on your machine, very nice build!! And when you get to the electronics, do yourself a favor and check out Centroid Acorn if you haven't yet. They have a great forum and a lot of very smart guys who will help you out with the electronics.

    Thanks for the info, wmgeorge.

I think 9-10 pounds of horizontal holding
force is fine for fabric/leather/paper cuts.
    Maybe even PCB boards.

I think, you are right, 2x2 is probably
the size limit for a shop vac type. Would
be interesting to see if a vacuum blower
would do better but I am happy with the
results of the vacuum test for now.

    Dan, thank you.
    Unfortunately, I already got a UC100 and a C11G for the machine.
And with all the help I got here from our experts, I feel comfortable
about keeping the electrons in check here as well.

Hopefully, next time. I have a tendency to keep building machines.

Maybe there is medical term for my condition.

I couldn't tell from the pictures, how are you driving the x and y axis ballscrews?

    Dan,
The ball screw drive installation will be
shown pretty soon as I kind of laid out a
sequence in my mind for this build.

Next step is installing the shelf.

    The Laptop Shelf:

    It is pretty straight forward.

    Two side plates:
    Attachment 414302

Attach the slides to the side plates.
    All holes are pre-drilled. Slides
are 22" long and have end stops:

Install the side plates to the stringers:

    Side plates installed
    and slides pulled out:

    The shelf is 20x28:

    Plenty of space for
15 or 17 laptops and peripherals:

Enough clearance for a full size mouse:

You must be a new retiree. My first year of retirement I built a backhoe attachment for my old John Deere tractor. Then proceeded to use it down at the Lake to dig in our sewer lines, electrical and build a retaining wall.

    Shelf tucked in:
    Attachment 414330

Works really nice and the end
stops keep it in place in and out.

    SPOIL BOARDS:

    As mentioned, the table consists
    of 1" HDPE strips:
    Attachment 414332

You install different spoil board strips
on top depending on your cut:
    Attachment 414334

They are all mounted from the top to the
HDPE table with 5/16 pan head bolts:

Re: David A's New 2x3 Bench Top CNC

For dry cuts, use MDF, birch ply
    or HDPE spoil board strips:
    Attachment 414338

For wet cuts, use HDPE strips:
    Attachment 414340

For vacuum, use the single piece,
full size 4MM MDF covering the
whole table. I didn't cut it yet.

For now, I am installing 1/2" HDPE
spoil boards as it is the most
versatile material. I decided to have
some fun and use red ones:

    Just a small tidbit.

I use 5/8 backer rods for all open slots
on the extrusions. Keeps dust and debris
out of the slots better than the commercial
    covers.The McMaster-Carr ones are firmer
and work better than the HD ones:

Hah, I wish I could afford to be a retiree
and have my beer on a beach in Hawaii.

    Now comes the biggest item.

    ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION:

    First the electrical box.

The electrical box will be attached to the
shear panel of the side frame. Bolts
will use sealing washers to protect the
outside of the panel from cutting coolant:
    Attachment 414356

The power supply is an AnTek 800 Watt
    toroidal. 75V @ 10.5A with 5V and 12V 1A
modules, sized for the servos I will be using:
    Attachment 414358

Install power supply to the shear panel:

    Power supply installed:
    Attachment 414372

Next, install the first frame of
the E-box to the shear panel:

Re: David A's New 2x3 Bench Top CNC

Install the second frame of the E-box:
    Attachment 414382

I will be using the C11G BoB from
    cnc4pc for this machine. Pretty
basic BoB but has spindle control
and the I/O's I will need:
    Attachment 414384

    Install the UC100 motion controller
to the C11G . Install the assembly
    to the E-box:

I was just curious are you routing out all the components for the build, or do you have a mill that you're using?

I am wondering the same thing, I was going to guess water Jet. At least on part of it anyway.
