Here are the desk nameplates that I made for my kid's offices. John (son) is an editor with MGM in CA. Jade (daughter-in-law) works for Sean Murphy Studios in CA. Theresa (daughter) works at a pet boarding place in South Dakota.
The nameplates are made out of aluminum with a 1/2" brass trim. The screws holding the brass on are #4. There is protective strips on the bottom of these so they will not scratch desks.
Once I got the engraving part figured out, these were simple to make. I have one milled for me, but I ran out of brass to do the trim.
The only change I would make to these is probably use italic for the font instead of regular font.
They may look "scratchy." That was on purpose. When I was cleaning them up, I ran a DA sander over them to get out scratches and other defects. Once I ran the finest paper over them, I liked the look so I left them. The "scratchiness" is quite uniform and gives the nameplates a nice appearance. I sprayed them with a coat of Clear gloss.
