Does increasing/decreasing stepper steps increase torque?

    Hello All-

Quick question... Does increasing or decreasing the "steps" on a stepper motor change the torque of the stepper? For example, if I have it set at 1/16 steps right now and change it to 1/4 or 1/2 or even 1/1, will the stepper be able to "push" more weight?

    Thanks.

It will make it go much faster, but with steppers, greater speed = less torque so nope unfortunately. If you want speed that is the way to go though.

The answer isn't as simple as the question. It depends on mechanics (mechanical advantage and efficiency), motor, power supply and driver and what motor speed range you need. Here is some info that might be of interest: http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.p...chanical_Power

At low speeds, a 2 phase on full step driver will give you the strongest pull out torque, but as you try to get it to speed up, that driving method is prone to the mechanical resonance of the motor.
Phil, Still too many interests, too many projects, and not enough time!!!!!!!!
