    Easy CNC conversion

    Hi,

Just joined this list, and intend to purchase a mini-lathe, which will eventually be CNC'ed.

Other than Sherline, which has a bolt-on kit to mount stepper motors on their mini-lathe, are there any other bolt-on kits (or simple conversions) for adding stepper motors to the other popular mini-lathes (HF, Homier, Grizzly, LatheMaster, etc)?

Or is the custom bracketry simple to make?

    Thanks,
    -Neil.

You can attach the steppers to the axis in really easy ways. You can find photos in the forum of people that has attached their steppers to the machine it with 4 bolts for clearance, an Alu plate, two inches of reinforced hose and two clamps, and they say it's working with no problem and good results. And the aestethics aren't so bad

For example, take a look at the photo. Do not know (I can't see it) if the owner used reinforced hose, but the bolt&plate mounting is easy and effective.

    Hope it helps

so similar! and both are so cute....as Huffed so stated. I just had to put this here...as I like these machines for intricate pieces of smaller dimension.

Okay, you make it sound easy. So I went down to my local HF today and looked at the 7x10 lathe. The handwheel for the cross-slide was missing, so it was easy to see how I could add a plate to mount a stepper, and it actually seems very simple. I'm over-analyzing and agonizing over it for nothing.

    Thanks,
    -Neil.
