    Question Electric parts

    Hello,

I want to build a CNC router myself mainly for woodworking (and maybe some other stuff if it works good) and I first want to buy the electronics.
I don't want to make it too expensive, but I also don't want it to be too cheap and will fall apart within weeks.
I want to use an Arduino to control the CNC router.
So my first question is: which Arduino should I use?
Then, the motors. I found on Sparkfun some motors: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10847. Are these good ones?
I am planning to buy these stepper motor drivers: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10267.
And what kind of power supply do I need?

I also saw that a gShield has been used on the ShapeOko. Is it just a replacement for the stepper motor drivers, or what is it?

    Thanks in advance!

If you want something more than just a toy, then imo, don't use an Arduino.

How big of a machine are you wanting to build? Those motors and drives aren't really suitable for anything but a very small, slow moving machine. Routers need to move fast, and those won't do it.

How big of a machine do you want, and can you better define "woodworking"? Do you want to cut 4x8 sheets into cabinet parts, or engrave letters in small pieces of wood?

I want to start simple and it will be mainly for engraving and cutting small pieces of wood. But I don't want to build something like the 100$ routers you see on the internet. I want it just a little better.
Maybe a working area of 60x40 cm? I first want to have the electronics.

    Doppiej,

For a dollar more you should take a look at this:

TB6600 1 axis Stepper Motor 2-phase Driver Board for CNC Router [HY-TB6600-Module] - US $16.00 : HAOYU Electronics : Make Engineers Job Easier

It will drive a motor of substance with ease.

I am not quite into the electronics part, so what is exactly better of this driver? If this driver will be better I will buy these.
What will be a good power supply? I read somewhere 24v and at least 6A. But I think there will be more of importance..

Are these drivers or similar ones available on ebay? That is easier to get them to my country.

I am still looking around for stuff.
What motors do you recommend? Not too expensive.

The price might not be what you're looking for but this site has great motors...http://www.motionmarketplace.com/marketing/motors/
