    engraving

    I would like to start engraving parts that I machine. I have never engraved with the cnc before I was wondering what type of cutter and how I should go about programming it the material is 304 ss and I will be using mastercam x4 any suggestions greatly appreciated

    Sometimes I just use a #1 center drill or a #0. Or you can get carbide engraving tools. For some reason I am guessing you do not have any tooling catalogs or have spent much time browsing the tooling web sites. Try MSCDirect, Travers, and Grainger to start. Most of the time, the tool listing in the catalog will tell you what it is designed for.

    feeds sppeds depth of cut ?

    i want to engrave .250 tall letters into the face of aa workpiece instead of steel stamping them what should i make the final depth and where would one get feeds and speeds for engraving? I checked out MSC they have quite a few engraving tool how would I know what would work best for stainless 304H

    Almost all tool companies have what are called "application engineers" working for them. Call them and ask to speak with an application engineer.
