    Error message trying to nest

Error reads: There are no closed shapes! Please check the drawing.

I think this probably means there is not a line segment not connected at some point.

I have created this same drawing 3 times in autocad, Export to BCC in dxf. I get the same error every time.

The last time I created the drawing in autocad I tested the drawing for being closed with the hatch command. In Acad if there is a line segment not connected you can not select a part to be hatched. I know from this all segments are connected before export.

    Any Ideas?

OK, the error is in the 12 o'clock slot. Look at where the Arc on the Left intersects the Vertical Line segment. If you zoom in you will see that the line extends past the arc slightly.

Trim that corner and you should be in business.

Ok I have zoomed way out on that section. 12:00 o'clock slot at the bottom where the 180 degree arc is attached to the vertical line(s) I can't find a gap. I've even used the "add a line between existing segments" commant & it doesn't pick up but 1 connection point. I have zoomed that part of the drawing to extremely large size & still can't find a break or an overlap.

I'm sure there is one there somewhere but I still can't find it.

look at the very top, and the upper left corner of the upper center slot. the upward pointing leg of the left side of that slot is extending a tiny bit beyond the radius of the circle. one easy trick for finding bad geometry with bob cad is to hold the shift key and click on different segments of the geometry. after 5 or six clicks you will see a pattern develop that points to a certain corner or break or even overlap. I clicked this twice and was able to find the prob. good luck

Actually, none of those endpoints meet the outside arcs. You need to work on your AutoCAD skills a little. Here's 2 versions, the second is a single closed polyline.

    Here's how I drew it.
    1. Draw the outside circle.
    2. Draw a line from the center of the circle vertically past the circle. Leave it long so it's easier to trim later.
    3. Offset both sides of the vertical line by .5
    4. Draw a circle with a radius of .5, 3.5 above the center of the large circle.
    5. Trim the little circle and the 2 lines to form your U shape slot.
    6. Use array (polar) to make 4 copies.
    7. Trim away what you don't want. All the endpoints will now meet.
    8. Optional. Use PEDIT to join it into one polyline

Thanks guys, I finally found it. Ger21 you have described pretty much the way I drew it. Only difference Is I probably went around the long way & drew lines through the x & y using snap to quadrant then ofsetting lines, used a 7"d. circle to create center points on each of the center lines snapped 1"d. circles on the 4 center points, then trimmed.
Looking back I'm sure that tiny segment missed getting trimmed out because I snapped a line on the 90 deg quadrant & offset my 1/2". I'm quite sure it got trimmed back to that offset line not to the outer dia. of the circle.

I am purely self taught on autocad. & there is much more about it I don't know, than I do know. I've never even had any learning CD(s)

I don't know why I didn't think of using array. I do use it quite often.

    Again thanks so much.

I am having the same problem with a file I have.

I am creating plywood boat kits and some of the panels need to be split between two panels.

I created parallel lines 2000mm from one end accross the geometry. I broke the line in to segments and deleted the unneeded parts of the new line between the existing parts.

I then copied all the geometry and deleted off the left side of the line on one copy and then deleted the geometry on the right copy.

When I shift click select the two halves all sides are selected but Bobnest says I need to select parts first.

I have two parts that I did this to that some how I was able to fix but I don't have a clue on how I did it.

Is there a function in BCC that will join these shapes automatically or do I have to search them down one by one?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

    Sam A,

You can try the Trim Strings function, but there are no garuantees because I can't see the part.

    Select 1 Chain (Shift Select).
Then click on Change => Trim + Extend => Strings.

This should help a little, but be careful in using this. If you have even one entity that is not truely part of the chain it will become part of the chain.

    Thanks for the response.

I was using the Trim-Extend but what was happening was I was not at absolute Zero on the Z axis with all the elements.

I used the 3D function to move all of the geomtry to Z0 and then things began to work as expected.

A Problem Along the Same Lines

Okay guys I'm brand new to working with CAD in general, but nonetheless I'm trying to cut this design, and when I try to nest this file, it seperates those three internal cuts into different parts, and from what I understand that means the plastable won't cut them in the correct position. I'm using v21.5.3 and BobNEST v3. Sorry I can't provide more detail, but I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out on this one.

    roomisonfire,

This one is actually quite simple. You have too many small arc segments that aren't tangent. Do this:

    Select everything.
Click Change => Reorganize => Cleanup and Optimize.
Then click Change => Reorganize => Make Arcs tangential
Input 0.01 for the Max Acceptable Angle and 12 for the Max Angle for correction.
Now click OK. The part should nest just fine now. It did on mine.
