Ethernet Smoothstepper Setup question with CNC RP plug and play

Am at the very last stages of finishing a PRO 4848 and just completed the install of the ESS plugin for Mach3.
After reading the instructions at ethernet-smoothstepper-setup-guide one thing kinda stood out. You need to be connected to the smoothstepper, but it did not state one way or the other if it needed to be powered up. The smoothstepper board is all connected with the drivers. Anyway, things have gone very smooth and trouble free on the entire build project. I don't want to fry anything. So the question is this: Does the smoothstepper need to be powered up for the PC to recognize and allow me to finish the ESS set up? Or do I just need to have it connected and that is all that is needed for the PC to "see" it?

** after more reading on the warp 9 web site I see they recommend set up be done with the board not connected. And that power is required.

Any issue with powering up the break out box without the motors connected?

Your Plug and Play electronics have been tested and are ready to go. Plug in the power and Ethernet cords, turn on your control box, and launch Mach3. You're ok powering on the control box without the motors plugged in, but you will want to power down the system before plugging the motors in. If you plug/unplug the motors with power to them you have the opportunity of shorting one of the drives.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks.. that is what I wanted to know. So I can start the PC first, just don't launch Mach3 until the break out box is powered up.
