    Fanuc 3Ti memory card issues

Hello, I've been searching around the forum and I see a lot of people are having issues with reading and writing to a memory card. I've looked over everything I can find and I don't see anyone with the same issue as myself, so I thought I'd post and ask for advice.

Let me start out by saying that I'm a network admin and not a cnc operator and I"m trying to to help resolve this issue for my boss. He thinks that since it has a computer screen, it's in my domain. So here goes.

I am able to copy a program from the cnc memory to the card, check it out, and it all looks fine. However, when I try to go the other way and copy the file from the memory card back to the cnc memory, I get an error: "The wrong data is used." The file is still sent over and stored into the cnc memory and looks correct when I look at it line by line BUT the file size is doubling. I have to think that this is an issue with perhaps extra lines being added but I can't confirm it because when the program is viewed on the machine's crt, it looks normal.

I hope you smart folks can help me sort through this. Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

I assume the model is 31i-T, not 3Ti? I don't find that alarm in the 31i manual. There should be a PS number for the alarm which might help narrowing down your problem.

Also, is it possible to attach the program (from the card) here?

are you 'copying' the program to the card while at the CNC machine?
if you output the program to a card using the control it must be in the correct format because the CNC machine knows how to output it correctly. if the program was created manually somewhere else then copied to the card with a PC then that's where your issue is. but even then it should work providing you use the correct LF/CR format. Sometimes using Linux to write a program will create the wrong type of LF/CR. you can convert the types using a number of Windows programs. Ultraedit is a good choice but there are many others.
if the program gets put into the CNC control and it is correct you can just ignore the problem.
Alternatively try using RS232 serial communications to send/receive the program to/from a PC using a null-modem cable or specifically wired CNC transfer cable and then check the formatting of the program (LF/CR or just LF or CR) then you will see what is going on.

Yea, sorry, the controller is in fact a 31i. I am trying to copy directly on the machine itself and not using a computer. I got a new card today that uses an actual SD card so that I can bring the program onto the PC after I copy it from the machine to find out what it looks like. I'll post it in just a few. Thanks again for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

SD card? I didn't know a Fanuc would recognize anything but a CF card plugged into a PCMCIA - CF adapter.

it doesn't. he's getting his terms mixed up. only accepts CF card + PCMCIA adapter.
although 31 series should have a USB connector too so you could just use a common USB thumb drive.
