    Filtering causing surface steps.

I am doing a surface finish parallel and it works fine with no filtering, but when I apply the filter its has some issues.

I have made eleven of these pockets already with no problems, just a slow tool path. Without filtering it runs at about 5 IPM even when the feed rate is 18 IPM, it is doing a lot of processing so I think that is what is slowing it down. When I apply a filter it runs at 18 IPM which is nice, but when it actually cuts the part it has steps in the pocket. The graphics path looks perfect, but the actually cuts have a steps in it.

I don't mean feed lines, its a .01 step (think a smaller dia rod) that carries on for about .08 to .100. In the length of the part it made about 5 or 6 steps at random intervals. I tried playing around with the filtering settings to no avail, I am not very familiar with filtering as of yet. If some one knows a lot about it and could enlighten me it would be great.

I have attached a pic of the verified pic for you to look at, although it looks fine. I can ZIP the MCAM X file if anyone wants to take a closer look.

    What are your Ratios ???

If you do not set the ratios correct or filter in planes correct or do not have a CD(control definition) that is set-up correct then you will see what you are seeing. I would contact my dealer and see what assistance they can be.

It was set a 3:1 ratio with all planes active. How exactly to the ratios work?

Try setting ur filter to 1:1 with a total tolerance of .001" that is pretty much the default setting we use on most of our pieces. If u want a better finish try using .0005" total tolerance.

I cant share the actually file, but here is a screen shot of my filter settings.

There is also the g code attached, around line 3040 these weird Z move start to happen for a few lines. Latter in the program it happens again, I am not sure why.

The graphics view does not have any problems so I was surprised when it happened. I still have a couple more of these cavities to cut in a different mold and would like to figure this out.

I find that I nver have to go lower then 5 tenths total I see you have 2 tenths. turn off the XZ and YZ as this might be were the issue is coming from.

And I am wondering why you blocked what version of MastercamX you are running in the top bar. this does not give any info except what version that may help us give you support.

I tried changing the tolerance and turn of xy and xz, because the arcs are in yz plane, the same problems came up in the code.

It is MCAM X MR2 that is running.

Thanks, they are such small z moves and they only last for a few lines and then start again at random.

Do you have any good reading on filtering?
