    Finally joined in the fun

Finally got my X2 CNC conversion done, thanks to Chukkie and blades for the inspiration (and Hoss, that can go without saying )

had to deviate a bit from chukkie's Z axis setup as it was being interfered with by my belt conversion.

here are a couple of rather crap-tastic videos taken with a cell phone (bro has my good video camera)

This is using the stock screws and rack? Have you measured the backlash? Especially curious about the Z. How much did the mechanical parts cost?

This might be a very good alternative conversion for some applications. Nice work

stock screws and extended rack, needed a bit more Z.

Unsurprisingly the Z had the least amount of backlash at .002

I removed the spring assist, so all of the weigh is resting on the gears

the Y has a backlash of .009 and the X has .0147!! I have some extra nut that I plan on modifying to try and get that down a bit.

Might try some acme screws next or maybe ball screws

Nice, I really like how it came out, the compact-ness especially.

I recently joined in the fun with an X2 too, it's a great little machine.

Be careful though, I've found this to be an extremely addictive hobby.

Thanks, I basically copied Chukkie's setup, except for the Z which I hung lower.

It has the side benefit of getting the stepper out of the way for tool changes as well.
