    Future CNC Maintenance Student

    Hello,

I'm currently a student at WSU Tech in Wichita, Ks. Since Jan 13, 2025 I've been in the Machining Technology program, but I've decided to change direction and go into CNC Maintenance.

I'm slated to take one course this Summer, CNC Operations for Maintenance Applications, but the bulk of my classes will start in the Fall. What I am looking for is 3-5 books to start studying now, I'd like to have a good foundation before classes start.

Here is my Fall class list:
    Foundations of Manufacturing
Industrial Safety (also an OSHA 10 Hour course but I took that this semester)
    Variable Speed Motor Control
    AC/DC Circuits
    Manufacturing Equipment and Tools

    Future Classes include:
    Fluid Power
    PLC & Industrial PLC
    Advanced Motor Control
    Industrial Schematics
    Electrical System Troubleshooting
    Mechanical Systems
    Predictive and Preventative Maintenance
    Industrial Process Control

Any advise on a reading list would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Future CNC Maintenance Student

    Hi,
    all of the above.

To talk to CNC machinists and/or CNC business owners will all tell you that it is problem solving that wins hands down.
There maybe two technicians equally well trained, but one has a knack to think about a problem and devise a strategy to break the problem down and test each
facet whereas the other technician is looking in the manual for procedures. The problem solver able to think through his own strategy wins every time.
If you are that person, you can look forward to a long, varied and involved career. Problem solvers are like gold, whether they get paid in gold is less certain.....

    Craig
