    G100 Setup issues

I'm having trouble getting my network set up for the g100.
I have gotten to the point in the instructions where I set the pc's address to 192.168.1.100, but when I ping the g100's address 192.198.1.10, it tells me request timed out. the instructions indicate that this is a cabling problem. I have a network crossover cable I bought from staples. It is not guaranteed to be correct, but I'd like to think the odds are pretty good .

    comments?

has anybody successfully developed a plugin that lets you use mach3 thru the usb port yet?

Your cable may be the issue. You mentioned crossover cable, This is not a standard Ethernet cable. Crossover cables are used with a server and several hubs.

    Hope this helps.

A cross-over cable is used to eliminate the need for a hub or switch when only two devices are connected together. It's really easy to look at a cable and see if it is a straight-through cable (most likely) or a cross-over cable. Hold the two ends of the cable side-by-side with the 'tabs' up. On a straight-through cable, the order of the wires will be the same. For instance, both ends of the CAT-5 cable that I'm looking at right now have green wires on the right side and brown wires on the left side, so it's a straight-through cable. A cross-over cable that I'm looking at right now has the wires in a different order on each end of the cable. Except to the cable builder, the color of the wire is not too important, only the order of the wires. There are CAT-5 charts available on-line that show typical wiring schemes. Here's the address of a web site that explains things fairly simply: http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/ne...ble/cable5.htm

For my G101 and my G100, I use cross-over cables so that I don't have to use a hub or switch.
